Categories of Senior Housing Options
Independent Living Independent Living Among the many senior housing options available, Independent Living provides the greatest versatility and freedom. Independent Living for seniors refers to residence in a compact, easy-to-maintain, private apartment or other type of home within a community of seniors. Any housing arrangement designed exclusively for seniors (generally those age 55+; in some cases the age requirement is 62+) may be classified as an Independent Living community.
Add your Independent and/or Assisted Living Property to the directory Life Care Community Life-care communities, also known as Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), provide a lifetime residence in either a private residential setting or, if and when needed, a nursing care center. The private residence may be an apartment, cottage, townhouse or casita, or a single family home. The nursing care center can include any one or all of the following: assisted care, skilled nursing care and Alzheimer's/dementia care. Additionally, life-care communities usually offer a diverse package of services, amenities and activities. Skilled Nursing Care Skilled Nursing Facilities, or Nursing Homes, may be independent (stand-alone) or part of a senior continuing care community. Twenty-four-hour medical care is available, as is custodial care. Residents may be in residence temporarily for a period of rehabilitation, or may be there for long-term care. State regulations define the services that Skilled Nursing Facilities can provide. Memory Care Memory care residences are secure assisted living communities that provide specialized care, services and activities for individuals with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia.
